The City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks Department has its own brand of natural beef in the works. Cattle farmers who lease land from Boulder’s holdings of about 14,000 acres would have have to abide by strict local regulations regarding pesticide use and cattle management if they wanted to have their beef branded under Boulder’s natural beef brand. Although rules and regulations will be strict, farmers who choose to participate in the natural beef program would also reap benefits such as better access to local markets like Alfalfa’s or Whole Foods.
